Another position the Bills addressed recently in free agency was defensive end. In 2018, they signed Trent Murphy away from the Washington Redskins. Like Tyler Kroft who was mentioned earlier, Murphy signed a three-year deal. Also like Kroft, he has yet to live up to his status.

Murphy struggled to stay healthy in his first season with Buffalo and ended the year with just 24 tackles and four sacks. So far in 2019, he hasn’t been much better as he has 25 tackles and two sacks for the Bills.

With him not playing to the level they expected and Jerry Hughes nearing the end of his career, the Bills will likely add some depth to the position this offseason. They may do this through the draft but free agency is a possibility, especially is Yannick Ngakoue ends up not re-signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Ngakoue was a third-round pick for the Jags but he quickly proved to be a steal at that position. As a rookie, he had 23 tackles and eight sacks. He then posted 12 sacks in his second season and 9.5 last year.

In 2019, he has 35 tackles and six sacks as the entire Jaguars team has struggled. With that being the case, he could look to join a new team and Buffalo could offer him an amazing supporting cast that would help him get back to his 2017 Pro Bowl form.
