The Buffalo Bills are close to being one of the best teams in the AFC. Here are three pending free agents they could target in 2020 that would put them over the top.

This season, the Buffalo Bills have been one of the surprise teams. They’re heading into Week 15 at 9-4 and in full control of the top wildcard spot in the AFC playoffs.

They could clinch their spot this weekend but even if they don’t, they need a complete meltdown in order to miss the postseason. This doesn’t mean their roster is perfect — then again, none ever is in the salary cap era.

Looking ahead to the offseason, we look at a few players currently scheduled to be free agents.

As long as these players don’t get hit with the franchise tag or agree to stay with their current teams before free agency opens, the Bills should be willing to back up the Brinks truck to bring these players in that could round out their roster and put them over the top.

Honorable mention: Brandon Scherff, OG, Washington Redskins

Before diving into the top three players, we look at one potential free agent that just misses the cut in Brandon Scherff. It was hard leaving him off, so he still had to be brought up.

Scherff was the No. 5 overall selection out of Iowa back in 2015. They hoped he would play tackle but that didn’t happen and eventually, he was shifted inside to right guard. It was a good move for him and the team as he made the Pro Bowl in 2016 and 2017.

He’s still playing at a high level and according to Pro Football Focus, Scherff is ranked as the sixth-best at his position right now, which would mean adding him would be quite the upgrade for the Bills.

Scherff is solid in both the pass and run game. He would not only help Josh Allen keep a clean pocket, but he could also help Devin Singletary find more running room as he continues to develop into a solid running back in the NFL.
