Buffalo Bills’ safety Micah Hyde was named to Pro Football Focus “Team of the Week” for Week 3.
The Buffalo Bills are 3-0 and one of the big reasons for the undefeated start is safety Micah Hyde. The team’s starting safety had arguably his best game of the season against the Cincinnati Bengals and his performance earned him a spot on Pro Football Focus’ “NFL Team of the Week” for Week 3.
PFF’s Gordon McGuinness wrote about Hyde in Week 3:
"S MICAH HYDE, BUFFALO BILLSAnother safety who had his best performance of the season, Hyde registered six solo tackles without a miss on Sunday. Two of those resulted in a defensive stop, and he finished the day with a forced fumble to cap an impressive showing in the win for the now 3-0 Bills."
After spending his first four seasons in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers, he signed with the Bills as a free agent ahead of the 2017 season. The combination of Hyde and Jordan Poyer, who signed as a free agent in 2017 as well, has quickly become the strength of this defense and is one of the best safety duos in the NFL.
Through the first three games, Hyde has 10 total tackles, 1 forced fumble and 2 passes defended.
While the Bengals did enter Week 3 as one of the most prolific passing attacks in the NFL, this week will be the Bills’ defense toughest challenge going up against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. The Patriots enter this game averaging the second most passing yards at 311, trailing only the Kansas City Chiefs.
The good news for the Bills is they are one of the best in the NFL in defending the pass. Last year, they finished first allowing only 179.2 yards per game and through the first three games this season that number has jumped up to only 211.7 yards per game. This is still good enough to finish in the Top 10 in passing yards allowed per game.
Micah Hyde had an excellent game against the Bengals and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him follow it up with another strong game in Week 4 against the New England Patriots.
