Captain Munnerlyn

The Bills placed E.J. Gaines on injured reserve last week and the coaching staff elected to bring in a familiar face with the signing of Captain Munnerlyn. The former Carolina Panther knows Sean McDermott’s defense well playing in it from 2011 to 2013. He had some of his best years of his career during this time frame with four interceptions and four defensive touchdowns.

At 31 years of age Munnerlyn likely can’t be expected to play extensive snaps but as a veteran leader who knows the defense, he could be a perfect fit. The veteran corner has played primarily as a nickel so his experience could help younger players like Taron Johnson and Sirian Neal learn the position.

However, the experience won’t be enough to warrant a roster spot and Munnerlyn must show that he can still perform if his number is called. If he plays well enough over the next few games, he could find his way onto the 53-man roster.
