T.J. Yeldon
It looks more likely that the Buffalo Bills will carry four running backs on their 53-man roster this year. While, T.J. Yeldon is an established veteran he still appears to be on the outside looking in.
The top three spots are pretty much locked in with LeSean McCoy, Frank Gore and rookie Devin Singletary, who looked great against the Colts. This means that Yeldon is going to be competing with Senorise Perry for that final spot.
A case could be made that Perry had the inside track even before the Colts game because he should be a key contributor on special teams. However, Perry showed he can do more than just play special teams and finished with 10 rushing yards, 15 receiving yards and one touchdown.
It was what Perry didn’t do that will help his cause as Yeldon had eight rushing yards on two carries but also had a fumble. When running backs are this far down on the depth chart, the ability to show they won’t make costly mistakes is crucial.
The backfield may just be too crowded for Yeldon to have a path to avoid a cut before the start of the season.
