Tight End

Similar to the offensive line, the tight end position has been hit hard by injuries this summer. The team began camp without Tyler Kroft, who suffered a broken foot during OTAs. However, Kroft was quickly joined on the sidelines by Jason Croom and Dawson Knox, both of whom suffered hamstring injuries.

This hasn’t stopped the team from naming Kroft the starter ahead of Lee Smith but it is also worth noting that Knox is ahead of Croom. This appears the rookie is winning the training camp battle with last year’s starting tight end.

However, the bigger surprise is that Tommy Sweeney is not ahead of Knox and Croom at this point. The seventh round rookie has been a bright spot this camp and has looked good with increased reps.

The fact that Sweeney has been on the field, while Croom and Knox have missed a majority of camp, it would have made sense to see him higher on the depth chart. It will be worth watching how he plays this preseason and if he can move up the depth chart.
