Stock Up: Trent Murphy
Another player who has stepped up this training camp is defensive end Trent Murphy. The former Washington Redskin was signed by the Bills to a three-year deal prior to the 2018 season. Unfortunately, he did not look like the same player from 2016, the year before he tore his ACL.
This season though is a different story and the 28-year old looks like he will be a starter for this defense this coming season. Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier has seen a difference that he describes as “night and day”.
"“It’s night and day when you see his movement in the drills and the fact that he’s able to practice every day, which he wasn’t able to do a season ago about this time,” Frazier said on Tuesday. “We’re going to get more of the guy we saw when we signed him in free agency.”"
The depth at the position was certainly going to be tested if Murphy was not able to bounce back this year with Jerry Hughes and Shaq Lawson as the other top defensive ends. However, the coaching staff should feel much more confident in the position based on how Murphy has looked at this point in training camp.
