The tight end position took another hit for the Buffalo Bills on Friday when Jason Croom missed practice due to a hamstring injury.

The injuries continue to pile up at the tight end position for the Buffalo Bills on Friday when Jason Croom missed practice due to a hamstring injury. Team reporter Chris Brown tweeted that at this time the severity is unknown and there isn’t a timetable.

Croom joins Tyler Kroft on the sidelines with Kroft still working his way back from a broken foot suffered during OTAs earlier this year. Kroft was placed on PUP list prior to camp and is expected to miss a majority of training camp.

Jason Croom joined the Bills two years ago as an undrafted free agent and saw an expanded role last year. He finished the season as the team’s fourth leading receiver with 259 receiving yards. He also had one touchdown reception.

Entering this year Croom was expected to compete with Kroft and third round pick Dawson Knox for the starting job. However, the injuries to Kroft and Croom, depending on how much time he misses, presents a real opportunity for Knox to secure the starting job.

Dawson Knox didn’t see a large workload during his time at Ole Miss and could benefit from some time to develop. In Lance Zierlein’s scouting report for Knox he described him more as “moldable clay rather than game-ready prospect”.

The fact that Knox is getting more reps, especially with the first-team, could help speed up that process of getting him game ready.

The Buffalo Bills have two more days of practice before two days off. While no timetable is set, it would make sense for the team to be cautious with Jason Croom and limit his time over these next two days. This can make sure that hamstring is fully healed while give Dawson Knox those extra reps.
