The Buffalo Bills have re-hired former Houston Texans GM Brian Gaine as Senior Personnel Advisor.
Formerly the Houston Texans’ general manager, Brian Gaine has found his way back onto the Buffalo Bills; where he served in 2017. His title in Western New York goes under Senior Personnel Advisor.
This isn’t the first time Gaine left Houston for Buffalo. In 2017, he hopped onto Brandon Beane’s staff as Vice President of Player Personnel. He then left to fill the void of Rick Smith in 2018 as the Texans’ general manager. However, that last just over one year — as the Texans fired him for unknown circumstances.

Many figure Gaine’s departure in Houston had to do with passiveness in both free agency and trade talks. During his tenure, he failed to sign big-name free agents, much to the dismay of the Texans fanbase. For Houston, a team seeking competitiveness, this may have done it for him.
However, Gaine is an impressive hire for the Bills. In his first draft for the Texans, he didn’t have a first or second-round pick but got immense value in the form of Justin Reid (third-round), KeKe Coutee (fourth), and Jordan Thomas (sixth). All three were valuable contributors as rookies for Houston.
For the Bills, Gaine will serve in the role that suits him best. A 20+ year NFL scout, he’ll be a leading voice in both pro and college scouting in Buffalo. He, alongside Beane, and his former replacement Dan Morgan, create one of the NFL’s most experienced front offices. The hire comes off as a win for many.
