The Buffalo Bills placed running back Frank Gore on the non-football injury list prior to the start of training camp.

The Buffalo Bills will be opening training camp on Thursday but they will not have veteran Frank Gore on the field with them. The team placed him on the non-football injury list on Tuesday according to CBS Sports’ Charean Williams.

The good news is that this injury should not force Gore to miss any time to start the regular season, as Williams notes.

Even though Gore is 36 years of age, he has not shown any signs of slowing down. Last year, with the Dolphins, the veteran back ran for 722 yards and averaged 4.6 yards per carry, which was the best average since 2014.

He has also shown to be very durable in the latter half of his career, missing only two games over the past eight seasons.

The depth chart at running back is deep with LeSean McCoy, TJ Yeldon, and rookie Devin Singletary on the roster alongside Gore. However, this doesn’t mean that Gore won’t be able to find carries and he should be considered the primary backup to McCoy.

Williams also noted that the team placed two players, Tyler Kroft and Jeremiah Sirles, on the PUP (players unable to perform) list. Tight end Tyler Kroft is still recovering from a broken foot suffered at the start of OTAs. He is going to be competing for the starting job with Jason Croom and third-round pick Dawson Knox. This is a battle that could be decided before Kroft has a chance to get on the field if Knox performs well early in training camp.

Meanwhile, Jeremiah Sirles is not competing for a starting job but a spot on the 53-man roster. The front office signed a number of offensive lineman and the position group is stronger than a season ago. The longer Sirles is off the field only hurts the veteran’s chances.
