Buffalo Bills great Bruce Smith will be the focus for an NFL made ‘A Football Life’ documentary.

Somehow, someway, NFL Films still hasn’t produced an edition of their famed ‘A Football Life’ documentary on Buffalo Bills great Bruce Smith. But, according to NYUpstate.com, that’s about to change, as Smith will join Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas as former Bills to be featured on the series.

In 15 seasons as a Bill, Smith tallied 171 sacks, 11 Pro-Bowl appearances, eight first-team All-Pro nods, and two Defensive Player of the Year awards. He then went on to Washington, where he racked up 29 more sacks, hitting the coveted No. 200 for his career. That number continues to reign supreme as the all-time leader in sacks.

Smith’s successful career earned him Hall of Fame status in 2009 — his first eligible year. Despite being a catalyst to the Bills defense that made four-straight Super Bowls and earning a spot in the NFL’s all 1980s and 1990s teams, his story (and legacy), on a more national scale, isn’t well known.

However, that will change when the documentary is released. The NFL’s ‘A Football Life’ series has turned from a specialty film to a must-watch for every new edition. The documentaries tend to be around 45 minutes long and focuses on not just the player’s NFL career, but their journey to it.

As of now, nobody knows when Smith’s edition will be announced or released. But New York Upstate’s Ryan Talbot did mention that Kelly, Thomas, and others from the Bills’ early ’90s teams will be featured. In the meantime, I’d advise you to watch the previous ‘A Football Life’ editions made on the Bills, if you haven’t already done so.
