The Buffalo Bills have built up a group of cornerbacks that should scare the AFC East.

The Buffalo Bills spent the off-season adding to the offense, while they left a stout defense to marinate and develop. Though the plan was and is to build around Josh Allen, they did bring in some upgrades for the cornerback corps, led by Tre’Davious White.

The Bills benefited from an excellent secondary in 2018, as their 2,867 allowed passing yards was the lowest number in the NFL. Their safety group led by Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer played a significant role in this, and so did White. But, the cornerback room wasn’t exactly complete. Despite Levi Wallace‘s surprising season, the winner of the starting job opposite White is anybody’s best guess.

Before free agency started, general manager Brandon Beane decided to get a head start re-tooling the cornerback group. His big get, Kevin Johnson, was released by the Texans and quickly signed on with the Bills. The 2015 first-round comes with intrigue, as has the upside to be a quality starter if he can stay healthy.

To supplement the addition of Johnson, Beane went ahead and signed E.J. Gaines under-the-radar. Gaines, a starter for the Bills in 2017 joins Johnson on a quest to stay healthy and relevant. The Bills likely saw the two additions as enough, as they didn’t target a cornerback in the draft. However, the culmination of their signings along with youth talent is one of the most intriguing, youthful groups of cornerbacks in the NFL.
