The Buffalo Bills have had a relatively quiet yet successful offseason in 2019. Now it is time for the moves to go from nice on paper to nice on the field.

Drafting Ed Oliver was the easiest choice the Buffalo Bills made all offseason.

He fell right into the team’s lap and it was almost bizarre to see him fall down the board. I’m certainly not complaining, though.

Oliver was the obvious choice for the Bills and immediately fills the void left by Kyle Williams after the veteran’s retirement. The move was also seen as the smartest move made by the team this offseason in a Bleacher Report article written by Brad Gagnon.

The Bills could have reached for a wide receiver or an offensive lineman but decided to take the top prospect in Oliver. Gagnon agrees this was the proper move:

"The Bills might have had bigger positional holes to fill, and they might have figured they invested enough in the interior defensive line when they signed Star Lotulelei to a five-year, $50 million deal and used a third-round pick on Harrison Phillips last offseason. But no, Buffalo stood pat and took the best player available—a prospect who might truly have an Aaron Donald-level ceiling and has drawn Donald comparisons."

Brandon Beane is drafting the right way and his patience paid off when the team landed Cody Ford in the second round. He is filling needs in the draft without panicking or making a polarizing pick. It is always nice when fans watch the draft and nod in approval with the moves made. The alternative is cursing Daniel Jones’ name to the heavens.

Other smart moves were bringing in the likes of Mitch Morse, Cole Beasley and John Brown. Beane gave the offense a makeover and made sure there will be competition to come up with the best possible roster.

And there is excitement surrounding the top draft pick. We will just have to revisit this issue in three years. I’m sure a lot of people expected Sammy Watkins and EJ Manuel to be major pieces of the team when they were drafted.
