Buffalo Bills: Shaping the roster with a proper plan in mind
The Buffalo Bills roster has been changing a lot since Brandon Beane took over. It is hard to argue with the moves he has made to this point.
It has been rather interesting to follow the moves made by Brandon Beane since he took over the Buffalo Bills roster.
He was quick to ship some Doug Whaley players out of town and has not been shy about the plan he has put in place. This is infinitely better than the usual talk from new GMs about Super Bowls right away and all that. Beane’s plan involved rebuilding in order to build a perennial contender, without making false promises to fans from the start.
A recent tweet from ESPN.com’s Mike Rodak provided a fascinating note about Beane.
This is interesting and this note could change if Shaq Lawson and LeSean McCoy are traded at some point this season. Beane would have then shaped the entire roster in his vision within two years.
Rebuilds are never fun but this one feels different. Perhaps that is because Beane has moved on from players who were struggling and didn’t let draft position affect his decisions. He could have kept players like Kelvin Benjamin and Marcell Dareus around because of the investment made in both, but his focus is on building a winner. That means moving on from the mistakes of past decision-makers.
Beane brought his process to Buffalo and he has clearly not wasted any time in building his roster. He knows that GMs can be fired without seeing a plan through, so he is putting a lot of faith in the players he has chosen.
A small side note from all this is that it could motivate Lawson to have a monster year in 2019. He should know that if he doesn’t he will be out of Buffalo and may not have a nice offer waiting for him elsewhere.
