The Buffalo Bills made several roster moves Monday. This included a shakeup at the tight end position to fill the offseason roster.

The Buffalo Bills made several moves earlier today to get the roster to its full capacity before all the workouts begin.

This included some players making the team after impressing at the recent rookie minicamp. Unfortunately, this meant some others had to go.

Note that Jake Fisher was let go after signing earlier this offseason in an attempt to transition from a lineman to a tight end. That move was helped along by the signing of Lee Smith, who returns to Buffalo after a few years away.

The Smith signing started the day which basically meant it was a matter of time before Fisher was let go.

I was intrigued to see what Fisher could do at tight end. Yet I may have overlooked the fact that he was in an uphill battle to even make the roster. Signing Tyler Kroft and drafting Dawson Knox showed that Fisher wasn’t exactly a top option at what would be a new position for him.

The Bills entered this offseason with a glaring need at tight end. Fast forward to today and Jason Croom is the only returning player at the position, alongside five new faces.

The main takeaway from the group is that there will be an open competition at the position. Kroft, Smith and Knox should be locks to make it. After that it is open for a fourth player, or perhaps one of the others shines in camp and takes a spot from someone like Smith.

Brandon Beane is doing the right thing by continuing to bring in new faces. The alternative is not creating any competition and that is not a great strategy at all. If one of the new tight ends can become a main target for Josh Allen, Beane has done his job.
