Buffalo Bills: Four three-round draft scenarios for the Bills
Stay Where They Are
First Round – Pick No. 9
Ed Oliver / Defensive Tackle / Houston
While the closer we get the less likely it seems he will be there, Ed Oliver appears to be the favorite to be a Buffalo Bill if he were to be on the board here.
Oliver would be an excellent fit for the Bills and fill the role left by Kyle Williams as the pass-rushing defensive tackle. With his strength and speed, Oliver can slide right into the defensive line rotation and become the pass rusher the team needs from the inside.
Personally, I believe this draft class is so deep at defensive tackle that you can take a player like Jeffery Simmons from Mississippi State at the back end of the first/early second and have one of the best players in the draft.
If the Bills and Oliver do find themselves together at some point in the draft process, there is no way I could be mad at the team. An elite talent that fills a need makes all of the sense in the world.
Second Round – Pick No. 40
Jace Sternberger / Tight End / Texas A&M
By not taking a tight end with their first pick, Buffalo reaches a little bit to take one of the most intriguing prospects in the draft.
Sternberger is a gifted pass catching tight end that could use work on his blocking, but his abilities in the pass game make him special. He is big at 6-foot-4 and gets in and out of routes fluidly, as well as possesses a great pair of hands. I have seen comparisons to Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs and boy does that sound enticing. Kelce is long, fluid, and a great all-around tight end.
I believe that Sternberger will be available more towards the middle and end of the second, but if Buffalo is to stay where they are, they can fill a need and give Josh Allen yet another weapon that he can grow with for years to come.
Third Round – Pick No. 74.
Yodny Cajuste / Offensive Tackle / West Virginia
By not addressing offensive line with their first two picks, Buffalo can add a player that has potential to start from day one, but could be even better by taking time to develop and learning. Taking Cajuste here is a really good move because you address a need that helps Josh Allen yet again but is also a great value pick.
At pick No. 74 you are getting a very good prospect that you don’t need to contribute immediately and has a ton of upside. This would be a very smart move if Buffalo were to go offensive line over wide receiver here.
