The Buffalo Bills had great production from the defense in 2018 and two linebackers stand out as the best at their position in the division.

Buffalo Bills fans saw some great play from all levels of the defense in 2018.

One unit that stood out in particular was the linebackers. Tremaine Edmunds was brought in to be the future at the position, yet it was a veteran and another young guy who had the best seasons of all.

Pro Football Focus added some context.

Lorenzo Alexander had an amazing year, playing in all 16 games and finishing with 6.5 sacks. He was just behind Jerry Hughes who had seven. The veteran also had 13 tackles for loss and intercepted two passes.

Then there was Matt Milano, who showed up second in the AFC East even though he only appeared in 13 games. He finished third on the team in tackles with 78 and had 13.5 tackles for loss. He also intercepted three passes and recovered three fumbles.

These grades are interesting because Edmunds actually ended up leading the defense in tackles with 121. And that came in only 15 games. He also had two sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Either way, it was a great season for all three linebackers. A quick glimpse at the defensive leaderboards proves just that.

The best news is that all three are on the roster in 2019. Alexander is back for another year while Edmunds and Milano are just starting their careers. There may even be more talent joining the group this offseason.

Next. Entirely possible Bills cut LeSean McCoy this offseason. dark

It is not a major position of need, but the Bills defense will only continue to be more feared as the group gains more experience and as a result, talent.
