The Buffalo Bills must improve the offensive line in 2019 and that process can begin by letting go of a player who has started in the past.
The fact LeSean McCoy openly advocated for the Buffalo Bills to draft a top offensive lineman this year does not bode well for anyone who blocked for the team in 2018.
McCoy was not wrong in his wish, even if it made some people mad.
Earlier this month I found an article on ESPN.com going over in-house free agent decisions each NFL team needs to make this offseason. This piece mentioned the fact the Bills could choose to move on from John Miller.
A recent Bleacher Report piece, written by Maurice Moton, went a step further and said the Bills should indeed move on from Miller.
Here is some of what Moton had to say about the line situation:
"Better pass protection and a more productive ground attack would help the rookie signal-caller progress in 2019. General manager Brandon Beane can look toward free agency for a veteran guard on a short-term deal or take an interior lineman on Day 2 of the draft."
Bills fans are going to find out rather quickly how Brandon Beane views the current offensive line once free agency begins. He could quickly sign a few new players, and even if he doesn’t, it seems clear the team will add at least one top offensive line prospect early in the draft.
Some teams begin a rebuild by bulking up the line first, then adding a quarterback. The Bills went a different route, which made sense given last year’s QB class and the cap situation Beane was dealing with.
He got his quarterback for cheap and now has a ton of money to add blockers up front. Once the line is solidified, the rest of the offense should see improvement. Just give Josh Allen time and let him go to work.
If Miller ends up being let go, he may not be the only one.
