Buffalo Bills: Biggest offseason need at the start of 2019
The Buffalo Bills have plenty of holes to fill on the roster but one stands out as the biggest need at the start of 2019.
The NFL offseason is painfully long, whether your favorite team makes the postseason or not.
The good news for Buffalo Bills fans is that there is plenty of draft hype to keep everyone occupied between now and the end of April.
Free agency begins before that, though, and the Bills may be aggressive this year by bringing in some top, expensive talent.
Offensive line should be a main focus as it was declared the team’s biggest offseason need in a recent article on ESPN.com.
Here is some of what was said about the Bills in the article:
"Coach Sean McDermott already has fired offensive line coach Juan Castillo, while general manager Brandon Beane could replace as many as four starters this offseason. Center Ryan Groy, right guard John Miller and right tackle Jordan Mills are all scheduled for unrestricted free agency."
It looks like we may be headed for a complete overhaul of the position. And that would make sense given a new coach will be leading the unit and may have some guys in mind who he believes can help this team succeed.
I expect the Bills to add talent on the line through both free agency and the NFL Draft. The team can bring a veteran or two to anchor the group, and those individuals can lead the way for any younger players who are drafted in April.
There is no excuse not to do exactly this when considering all the cap space and draft picks available this year.
The wide receiver position stands out as the other major need this offseason, but the offense as a whole will never succeed if the offensive line is so bad. Brandon Beane needs to fix that unit up front in order to make it possible for the skill positions to improve in 2019.
