Buffalo Bills make a great decision to re-sign Derek Anderson
The Buffalo Bills had a revolving door at quarterback in 2018. That is not the case in 2019 as the position is already solidified.
The Buffalo Bills had a quarterback room of Nathan Peterman, Josh Allen and AJ McCarron in the summer of 2018. That room did not have much experience, which was not exactly the best thing for the No. 7 overall pick.
Things will be different in 2019.
The Bills gave Matt Barkley a contract extension recently, and decided to do the same with Derek Anderson.
Anderson was originally brought to Buffalo to serve as a mentor to Allen and will get to do that in 2019. If he ever suits up for a game, something will have gone wrong.
This is another smart move made by Brandon Beane. The quarterback room went from barely having any experience to now having two veterans to help Allen in his development.
There are no questions about who will be the starter and there will be no competition in 2019. The energy of the two veterans and the coaches can be directed toward getting Allen ready to dominate in his second season.
It is weird how this worked out. Barkley only came in after both Allen and Anderson were out with injuries. And Anderson only showed up when it was clear that Peterman could not be trusted to start with Allen out. Now both are set in as an important members of the team.
I guess it doesn’t matter how it came to be, but rather that it did.
The goal in 2019 will be for the Bills to take a major step forward and put together a winning season. For that to happen, Josh Allen needs to have a great season.
He now has a support system in place to help make that a reality.
