Buffalo Bills: One logical trade to make before the deadline
The Buffalo Bills are trending toward the top of the 2019 NFL Draft and that means some big name players may be traded in the coming week.
It is entirely possible that Monday night’s game against the New England Patriots will be the final time Buffalo Bills fans see LeSean McCoy in a Bills uniform.
That is, if Brandon Beane will make the move and commit to a full rebuild.
A recent article on NFL.com went through one potential trade each team could make before next Tuesday’s trade deadline. As you may have guessed by now, McCoy being shipped out was the trade for the Bills.
And as I am writing this post, this tweet was posted:
So as you can see, the idea of trading McCoy is a hot topic. And rightfully so.
McCoy came into this season set to earn just under $9 million and is set to earn just over $9 million in 2019. Considering this season is nearly at the halfway point, this isn’t too expensive for a contending team to take on.
The issue right now is that McCoy is in the concussion protocol. However, it does look like he will be back in action soon as he was at practice today.
McCoy has had a slow start to the season, but teams interested in him will likely be chalking that up to him being on a 2-5 Bills team. He has also missed one full game and essentially all of last week’s game. When he has played, the most carries he has received in a game was 24, which came in a win over the Tennessee Titans.
McCoy won’t bring back a first-round pick in return but he should be able to land a second-round pick, especially from a contending team where the pick is later in the round.
Making this trade makes sense because even with McCoy on the roster, this team is going to struggle. Beane may as well save some money while also adding some picks in the process. I can’t think of a strong argument against making the trade if the return is good enough.
