If you’re having a conversation about underrated defensive playmakers, it needs to include Darryl Talley. He may not have earned the recognition he deserved from the league during his playing days, but Bills fans and teammates alike know of the impact he made on Sundays.

There are many different ways to look at this. You could take the approach that Talley played a huge role in the Bills’ string of Super Bowl appearances. Or maybe you consider that, in 12 seasons, he never missed a single game — that’s a bit mind-boggling for such a physically demanding sport. What about the fact that he’s the franchise leader in career tackles?

Talley may never find himself in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and only found his way on to two Pro Bowl rosters. Most general NFL fans probably wouldn’t recognize his name or be that impressed by his overall body of work.

What do they know? Buffalo fans who were watching during the 1980s and 1990s have a clear sense of how outstanding Talley was on the field. That’s why it only seemed right to include him in the Top 10 Bills players of all-time.
