The Buffalo Bills had a rough day on offense Sunday afternoon. That makes the quarterback competition hard to judge right now.
Josh Allen started at quarterback for the Buffalo Bills yesterday afternoon with a chance to seize the starting job. Instead, he was lucky to escape without a potential head injury.
Allen had a rough outing, finishing 6/12 for 34 yards. Those who watched know that he never had much time in the pocket and the few times he did, he dealt with a few drops from his receivers.
Dion Dawkins was not available but the offensive line struggled mightily against the Cincinnati Bengals starters. Nathan Peterman and the offense got things going in the second half, but everyone must remember that the Bengals had backups out there by that point.
It is tough to gauge who will start Week 1 and that is not good since we are less than two weeks away from the start of the season. If the coaching staff thinks the line may be an issue, that could lead to Allen starting the season on the sidelines so he can continue to learn and not get destroyed right away.
He was holding onto the ball far too long and while his fight in the pocket is admirable, it will lead to some monster hits. We have been waiting on a starter to be named all summer, and that decision will be coming soon by default.
We take a look at Sunday’s game and more in today’s edition of The Morning Charge.
