Kaelin Clay and Malachi Dupre

I am unable to see the role on the roster for these two. They offer some ability, and special teams contributions, but not enough to lock a roster spot.

Without a truly memorable first preseason game, they may not be able to get enough playing time to compete for a roster spot later on.

Clay offers the speed the Bills receivers lack. However, the signing of Coleman and the emergence of Foster may force him off the roster if he can’t outshine those two on deep catches. While he does offer return options, so do several other locks on the roster, and he isn’t elite enough to hold a spot as a returner only.

Dupre is a prototypical camp body. He was signed after last season, and while he offers some good qualities, he won’t have a shot on the roster without a lot of help. The one thing that may save him is if he becomes the safety blanket for Josh Allen.

Last season Nathan Peterman threw almost exclusively to Brandon Reilly in preseason, and thus Reilly made the practice squad.

The Bills receivers are going to be a major factor in the roster cuts. They have talent mixed in, but the QB selection will dictate who stays and goes as much as their own abilities. The inaccuracy of Allen makes large targets such as Benjamin, Coleman and Holmes more valuable. Unlike the smaller and more savvy runners like Armstrong, Proehl and Jones.
