Ray-Ray McCloud, Austin Proehl, Robert Foster and Cam Phillips

The receivers the Bills selected in the draft were a little surprising. Both McCloud and Proehl offer options as slot WRs, but nothing truly elite to make you see where they fit. They look more like practice squad guys awaiting injury to get the call and step up.

The two guys who have impressed throughout camp and OTAs are the undrafted free agents, Foster and Phillips. Foster coming from Alabama has always had a slight edge with knowledge of the offense. He has shown his speed in camp, and if he shows in preseason games he has a role on special teams, he’ll possible be the guy who pushes Andre Holmes off the roster.

All four of these players should play the majority of the second half this Thursday. Regardless of how they arrived on the team, their performance in games will determine who gets cut, and who makes the practice squad. McCloud and Proehl may be the most likely to clear waivers which also may make them more likely to be squad players.

Bottom line with these players, there are already 7 players ahead of them. The Bills won’t carry nine, so they have to replace and make a Holmes, Jones or Coleman expendable.
