Buffalo Bills: No selections by the team in 2018 NFL Supplemental Draft
The Buffalo Bills decided not to use a 2019 draft pick to select one of the players available in today’s NFL Supplemental Draft.
The 2018 NFL Supplemental Draft took place this afternoon and Buffalo Bills fans were waiting to see if the team would take a chance on one of the players available. Alas, there are no new rookies headed to Buffalo.
Two players ended up being taken, which is rare, and both are heading to the NFC East.
While Sam Beal stood out as the clear top player available, I did not think Brandon Beane would use a future draft pick to bring him to Buffalo. Beane’s “process” involves putting a great deal of importance on draft picks. Giving up a 2019 third-round pick for Beal may have been seen as too costly.
Supplemental picks involve some risk and Bills fans won’t have to worry about such a distraction this year. There is already another distraction taking up the collective focus of the fanbase.
Beal and Adonis Alexander both being selected marked the first time since 2010 that two players were taken in a Supplemental Draft. It was also the first time a player was taken since 2015, when Isaiah Battle was taken by the Rams.
Passing on taking a player this afternoon means the Bills seem to be confident in the defensive secondary heading into the season. Tre’Davious White is the star of the group while Vontae Davis is looking to resurrect his career after injuries have slowed him down the past few years.

Barring anything crazy it doesn’t appear that the team will add any big name players between now and Week 1. So this group in town right now will battle it out in training camp to earn the right to be on the 53-man roster.
