And now to the most important position in football.

I chose Josh Allen, but could have also gone with AJ McCarron.

My reasoning for choosing Allen is that his impact goes beyond what he can do on the field. If the team opts to go with McCarron to open the season, Allen’s presence alone will impact the decision-making of Sean McDermott. If he pulled Tyrod Taylor for Nathan Peterman, he is definitely going to pull McCarron in favor of Allen.

While I don’t think it is the right move, I do think Allen will be starting sometime during the first half of the season. So while the other four players on this list will have positive impacts because of their play, Allen is listed because of how his status as the No. 7 overall pick will see him being placed on the field as the leader of the offense as a rookie.

Coaches always come out and say they want a rookie quarterback to learn. That is fine if there is an established starter in place, but the Bills have quite the wide open competition as of right now. And given the investment and his raw ability, it will be hard for Allen to lose to McCarron and Peterman.

Let’s hope his impact on the decision-making leads to a positive impact on the field. If not, the team may be in for a major decline in 2018. Because no matter how good the rest of the team is, bad quarterback play can derail any team’s playoff hopes.
