McDermott & Bills need to commit to playoffs or the process

McDermott’s plan remains unclear
Entering the season, it appeared as though McDermott and General Manager, Brandon Beane, were all in for the future as they shipped away several players including Sammy Watkins, Ronald Darby, and eventually Marcell Dareus in exchange for less talented players and draft picks. But following a surprising, though lucky, 5-2 start, the duo made a “win now” move and acquired Kelvin Benjamin for a 3rd and 7th round draft pick.
After the blowouts by the Jets and Saints, McDermott decided to change quarterbacks, claiming the team was “built for better than 5-4” which would infer he thought it would help the Bills win this year.
It blew up in his face, however, and now McDermott claims the move was for both now and the future, yet, when asked Monday, he was unsure who would start this week against Kansas City. If putting Peterman in would help win now and the future, wouldn’t the decision be obvious?

The Bills now find themselves at .500 within the seemingly infinite cycle of mediocrity that they haven’t been able to escape from since 2000. Buffalo needs to either go all out to make the playoffs this year and hope some of the luck they had earlier in the season returns, or commit to “the process,” forget this season and focus on the future.
This team needed to push for playoffs, or (in offseason) push to top of draft. The in-between is the worst… and at 5-4, this move looks like one that puts them right there in no-man’s-land…. again.

Being caught in between the two options will inevitably result in an average record and a mid to low first round draft pick yet again.
