I think that it’s fair to say that first year head coach has exceeded expectations thus far. I think it’s fair to say that a win over the Oakland Raiders would be a big step toward ending the playoff drought. I also think that it’s fair to say that Bills fans need to take this season one game at a time. I was guilty of getting overly hyped up for the start of the 2008 and 2011 seasons, only to be disappointed. Let’s remember this time last year the Buffalo Bills stood at 4-2 heading into Miami, and came out 4-3. No, this is definitely not the Buffalo Bills of 2016.

Sean McDermott has installed a completely different culture, than what was ran by his predecessor. I’ll admit I enjoyed the extra attention the Bills received under Rex Ryan, but with Rex came an ultra late back culture that failed to hold players accountable for their actions. I’ve set it before on this podcast, and I’ll say it again: The 2017 Buffalo Bills are fundamentally sound. They hold each other accountable. They make their tackles. They commit less penalties. They are a well run organization through 7 weeks. Will that remain after week 8? One would hope that the Bills could continue their undefeated streak at home and “defend their dirt.” However, a loss to Oakland wouldn’t mean the end of the season. This is a touch team who rubbed the Bills nose in last season. Fortunately this game being at New Era field gives the Bills a different advantage.

Topics for discussion on this week’s podcast include:

  • Can LeSean McCoy put out another strong performance?
  • Did anyone see Deonte Thompson’s performance coming?
  • Can the Bills tighten up their pass defense against a strong Oakland passing attack?
  • How to beat the Oakland defense
