Should you believe the Buffalo Bills hype?
By Joe Rainford
Is the Hype real?
The Buffalo Bills hype train is in full flow at the moment after a great win in Atlanta. If you take a quick look at the various power rankings in the media, you can see the Bills as high as 2nd on Profootballtalk’s version. At first glance, 2nd seems a bit high. However, if Zay makes that catch in Carolina, we’re looking at a 4-0 football team.
I saw a few comments that Jordan Matthews being injured means our offense will collapse. I disagree, it’s not like our offense has been that good anyway, but it’s done enough. Charles Clay and LeSean McCoy are the real keys to the team on that side of the ball.
The game in Atlanta just showed exactly how Clay should be used every week and he’s by far the most targeted member of the team, other than McCoy.
Will there be sustained success?
If the defense keeps performing around the current level, I don’t see why not. Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer look like excellent free agent signings. Oh yeah, we have the best kicker in the league, too.
Zay Jones on the other hand, it’s time he steps up. With Matthews out Zay is now our number one Wide Receiver. It’s safe to say he’s struggled so far, catching 4 of his 17 targets for 57 yards. His drop on 3rd down almost changed the game, with Atlanta scoring on the ensuing drive. He’s got no choice but to come good now, Tyrod needs someone to throw to other than Shady and Clay.
Now what?
One more game before the bye week, the Cincinnati Bengals. They have the 5th ranked scoring defense and a revitalized offense under new coordinator Bill Lazor.
After impressive wins the last two weeks, let’s just hope the Bills don’t get ahead of themselves this week. Going into the bye at 4-1 would be some accomplishment, and I would be all aboard the hype train.
