The Buffalo Bills have gotten younger under Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane, but by how much?

The 2017 post-53 man roster cut-down Buffalo Bills are the youngest team that Buffalo has seen in five years.

Each year, phillyvoice.com writes an article documenting the average age of every NFL team, and how they rank among their peers.

The Buffalo Bills average age is currently 25.3 years old. The third youngest in the NFL. Buffalo has seen some older teams recently, ranking higher and higher each year you look back:

  • 2017 / 25.3 (3rd in NFL)
  • 2016 / 25.72 (10th)
  • 2015 / 25.87 (10th)
  • 2014 / 26.3 (22nd)
  • 2013 / 26.74 (30th)

The Buffalo Bills do not have a player over the age of 30 in their current wide receiver corps. Their quarterback, Tyrod Taylor, is just 28 years old, and LeSean McCoy is 29. It will be interesting to see how this correlates to the on-field product considering the only two teams who are younger than the Buffalo Bills are the Los Angeles Rams and the Cleveland Browns.

Buffalo owns the youngest team in the AFC East. It is shocking that the rest of the AFC East doesn’t rank too far behind Buffalo considering the three other teams have senior citizens at quarterback (Tom Brady-40, Jay Cutler-34, Josh McCownn-38). That does not help their average age. Here is how the Buffalo Bills average age of the team matches up to its’ AFC East counterparts:

  • New York Jets / 25.6 (7th)
  • Miami Dolphins / 25.7 (9th)
  • New England Patriots / 25.88 (11th)

The recent moves made to get down to 53 men on the roster just made the team younger, and that is what Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane will most likely continue to do. It is also looking more and more like a tank. Younger inexperienced players who do not cost as much against the team’s salary cap will be taking the field this Sunday against the New York Jets. The team hopes they can find what players will succeed to move forward with and build the team around.

Getting off to a good start with a win against the Jets would be a huge step forward in the development of the young players on the Buffalo Bills’ roster.
