Tyrod Taylor finished the 2016 season as the eighth-ranked quarterback in fantasy point scoring. This is with him just playing just 15 of 16 games. This Buffalo Bills player is one of the most intriguing fantasy options on the team.

Tyrod Taylor enters the season as the first-string quarterback ahead of Cardale Jones, TJ Yates, and Nathan Peterman.

It was a truly bizarre offseason for Tyrod Taylor. After a week 17 benching, the months that followed included a GM going back and forth on whether Taylor is the QB of the future. Brandon Beane claimed that he is who they’re moving forward with. He then refused to double down on those comments soon after.

ESPN documented Taylor as the most sacked quarterback in 2016 (42). The cast surrounding the quarterback was insufficient generating 4.2 Yards after the catch which was the fourth lowest in the league.

Marcas Grant wrote a piece on NFL.com detailing the 2017 fantasy football draft bargains. Here is what he had to say about Tyrod Taylor:

"“I admit that I might have put together this list while staring at the Tyrod Taylor action figure that adorns the center crossroads of the NFL Fantasy Stronghold. But that doesn’t diminish what Taylor has accomplished on the field as Buffalo’s starter for the past. Taylor has been a top 16 fantasy quarterback in each of the past two years while navigating around injuries to some of his top playmakers. His ability to protect the football (14 turnovers in 29 starts) and to create as a runner (leads all QBs in rush yards over the past two years) should make him a favorite of the late-QB-drafting crowd. Yet somehow, Taylor is coming off the board after players Eli Manning, Carson Wentz and Andy Dalton. It’s mind-bottling.”"

In most fantasy leagues, rounds and rounds of wide receivers and running backs will go by before even a single quarterback is taken. You have your Brady’s and your Brees’ in the top five every year.

After that, the margin between quarterbacks gets razor thin. In rounds seven to ten, you can get away with players such as Tyrod Taylor, Andy Dalton, or Phillip Rivers.

Tyrod Taylor has posted very average stat lines for quarterbacks in regards to throwing the football the past two years. Just north of 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns. While not always the most accurate passer, Taylor utilizes his dual-threat ability. Capping the past two seasons off with 500 rushing yards respectively.

Taylor will have to make a huge leap this year, and he may have to tools to do it. A healthy Sammy Watkins, a smart Zay Jones, and a consistent LeSean McCoy will make for a great season. As for any quarterback.

My 2017 Tyrod Taylor projections:

  • 3,420 passing yards
  • 20 touchdowns
  • 550 rushing yards
  • 4 rushing touchdowns

A season such as this would be nothing out of the ordinary for Taylor.

Taylor is easily the cheapest quarterback on the fantasy market for his level of production. He has been tumbling down draft boards because of his team’s uncertainty with him at the position and the Bills’ losing record. The good news is, losing records mean nothing in fantasy.

Sit back, relax, and let Tyrod Taylor fall to you in the ninth round of your fantasy draft.
