Buffalo Bills Select Tre’Davious White With 27th Overall Pick in NFL Draft
By Ryan Brennan
After trading their 10th pick in the NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills have selected Tre’Davious White with the 27th pick.
No one likes the buildup to the NFL Draft, it never happens soon enough. So, when you’re forced to wait even longer than expected, frustration can build. Luckily, the Buffalo Bills were still able to get a productive player out of LSU with the 27th overall pick.
In addition, the Buffalo Bills will be getting an extra third round draft pick in this year’s draft and a first round draft pick in next year’s draft.
When the Buffalo Bills were on the clock, Mel Kiper Jr.’s 5 best available players were:
- Reuben Foster
- Ryan Ramczyk
- Zay Jones
- Forrest Lamp
- Kevin King
With a lot of holes to fill on offense and defense, the Buffalo Bills could’ve gone several different routes. The biggest needs were linebacker, receiver, tight end, cornerback and offensive tackle. Ultimately, they went with cornerback Tre’Davious White out of LSU.
White is a playmaker that will fit very well in Sean McDermott’s defense. He loves to compete and can play anywhere on the field. He brings good ball skills, catching ability, vision and ability to return. McDermott likes versatil
ity and that’s what the Buffalo Bills will be getting.
Here’s a look at his frame:
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 192 lbs.
Arm Length: 32 1/8”
Hands: 9 1/8″
Here’s a look at his Combine results:
40-Yard Dash: 4.47 seconds
Bench Press: 16 reps
Vertical Jump: 32.0 inches
Broad Jump: 119.0 inches
3 Cone Drill: 6.9 seconds
20-Yard Shuttle: 4.32 seconds
Taking a look at his draft profile on NFL.com, here are Tre’Davious White’s strengths coming out of LSU:
"Experienced island corner with slot reps over last two seasons. Quick twitch with exceptional footwork. Uses controlled hop-steps from press for extended face-up against receivers. Patient in press and rarely commits prematurely. Uses reactive quickness for quick recovery when beaten from slot. Pattern reader will jump path of route and attack throw. Plus click-and-close burst to ball. Impressive 15 passes defensed on 42 targets in 2016. Stop-start change of direction allows him to shadow in tight quarters. Sticky coverage on crossers and intermediate routes. Rose to challenge in coverage of Amari Cooper in 2014 and Calvin Ridley in 2016. Improved willingness to attack line of scrimmage and do his part against the run. Awarded coveted No. 18 jersey at LSU, symbolizing success and selfless attitude on and off the field. Three-year punt returner with a return touchdown in each season. Was also used as a gunner."
Personally, I’m excited to see what White can accomplish with McDermott leading the way. He’s a great defensive coach — and defensive back coach — and it should be White’s to gain.
