Negative: Got Benched

Despite never losing a game that he started in college for the Buckeyes, Jones was benched his final season with the team mid-year for J.T. Barrett. It’s hard to imagine a quarterback who was not even considered to be the best on his college team, turning out to be one of the best in the NFL but Ohio State had a ton of quarterback talent and Jones’ skill set did not match up as well with the offense that they were trying to run which was one of the reasons he was removed from his starting duties.

Positive: Huge Arm

Make no mistake about it Cardale has a “live” arm. He probably has the strongest arm of any quarterback in the draft this past year. Now this doesn’t guarantee that he will be successful in the NFL (JaMarcus Russell) but it’s a nice tool to have in your arsenal. If he can show anticipation and poise he will be able to use that arm to make throws at the NFL level that other players just aren’t talented enough to make. Watch him huck the ball an incredible 74 yards in the video below!

Negative: Bad Footwork

Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com reported that during rookie minicamp quarterback’s coach David Lee noticed some issues with Jones’ footwork. According to Brown, Jones said: “I was very comfortable until they started switching up my feet, as far as stance under center and in shotgun. At Ohio State I didn’t really have a stance under center because I was never under center.” Luckily, for Cardale he has Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly on hand to help him according to Matthew Fairburn of NewYorkUpstate.com.
