We have finally approached the Buffalo Bills ever-so important third preseason game. And with that being said, a week one starting quarterback has yet to be chosen.
All three quarterbacks will have an opportunity to play with the starters against the Pittsburgh Steelers, making this the most important game of the preseason. It’ll certainly be an enjoyable game to watch, allowing for plenty of time to evaluate the players.
Here’s three keys to the game for the matchup with the Steelers, which kicks off at 4 p.m., from Ralph Wilson Stadium:
1) Stay Healthy.
Like it has been for the last two weeks, a clean bill of health team-wide is the most important key of the game.
With a number of starters like LeSean McCoy, Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods and Percy Harvin out on offense, the Bills can’t afford to suffer any more injuries to key personnel.
2) A quarterback needs to take control.
With head coach Rex Ryan announcing that EJ Manuel, Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor will all get playing time with the starters, one of the three needs to step up and take control. The competition has gone on long enough.
A starter must be named, so some chemistry can be formed. With all three quarterbacks splitting reps, time as a complete starting unit has been limited.
Chemistry plays a big factor in success, and without it, we could see some costly mistakes once the regular season starts.
3) Time for Marquise Goodwin to step up.
Marquise Goodwin is the lone active experienced wide receiver expected to play on Saturday. It’s time for him to take advantage of the reps.
Goodwin is a player that has been heavily criticized since his arrival three years ago, but now he has a great opportunity to shine. The former Texas Longhorn is on the bubble and needs to solidify his spot on the roster.
It’s time to go big or go home.
