Buffalo Bills history: Who wore it #37
By Dennis Amo
Moving right along with our Buffalo Bills history. Today we will take a look at the past and present Buffalo Bills players that wore the number 37 throughout the years.
There are 8 players throughout the years, that have worn the number 37 for the Buffalo Bills.
We don’t see the number 37 on the field until the 1975 season when Ike Thomas is on the field. He was part of the Buffalo Bills squad for 5 games during the season and he started 4 of them. In that time frame he came away with 2 interceptions for 74 yards.
The next two players that we see wearing the number 37 for the Buffalo Bills were Clayton Heath and Sean Woodson. Although they were 21 years apart from being on the same team, 1976 (Health) and 1997 (Woodson), they both had similar numbers for the Buffalo Bills. Both Heath and Woodson were available for 2 games for the Bills in their respective years neither of them came away with any stats for the Bills.
In between those to players was the Buffalo Bills starting cornerback from 1987 until 1993. An 8 year player, 7 with the Buffalo Bills, was a mainstay at cornerback. Played in 108 games during his time in Buffalo and he started 107 of them. Odomes finished with a total of 26 interceptions for 224 yards and 1 touchdown. He also came away with 360 tackles for his time in Buffalo.
Larry Centers is the next player we see don the jersey number 37 for the Buffalo Bills. He was apart of the Bills for 2 years between 2001 and 2002. He joined Buffalo towards the end of his 14 year career with a final year in New England in 2003. While in Buffalo, he was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2001 and played in 32 games while starting 20 of them. He was more used as a receiver than a runner while in Buffalo having 123 receptions for just over 1000 yards with 2 touchdowns and had 45 carries for 216 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was also selected to the Pro Bowl while in Arizona in both 1995 and 1996.
Dainon Sidney came to Buffalo in 2003 in his final year of his career. He played in 2 games and had a total of 3 tackles.
George Wilson is the next player in the number 37 jersey but not until 2006. He was a part of the team in 2005 but wore the jersey number 15. Over his 7 seasons in Buffalo, Wilson played in 92 games and started 55 of them. He came away with 12 interceptions for 139 yards and 1 touchdown. He added 5 fumble recoveries as well. As far as tackles, he finished with 305 tackles and 107 assists. Not too bad for a player that started out as a wide receiver and moved to safety.
The current player on the team wearing the number 37 is Nickell Robey. Robey has been a solid defender in his first two years with the Buffalo Bills, playing in all 32 games so far and starting 9 of them. He has 1 interception that he has taken to the house. He has 3 fumble recoveries, 68 tackles and 18 assists so far.
