EJ Manuel Talks Quarterback Competition
By Dennis Amo
If you missed it this morning, EJ Manuel caught up with Howard Simon on WGR550. Howard, Jeremy and EJ talked about the Buffalo Bills and how the quarterback competition is beginning to shape up. If you missed the interview you can listen to it here.
I know (Bills fans) haven’t seen what I have to offer
Last year EJ Manuel was benched in week 4 in lieu of Kyle Orton taking over, but the benching may not have been 100% of his fault and some of the blame could be put on the coaching staff as well.
"“I think I was doing what I was coached to do,” Manuel said of his conservative play last season. “I know now that I’m more willing to take chances, just because of the confidence I have in my throwing motion and my arm. I think more of those vertical passes will definitely be showing (up).”– EJ Manuel, 5/13/2015"
Being benched allowed EJ to watch a veteran in action and he was able to learn form that. He have heard that he is ready to come out and let it rip and show us exactly what he has. We have not seen what EJ Manuel can offer at quarterback yet. Not having played a full season yet, there is a lot of room for him to show us exactly what he does have.
"“I know (Bills fans) haven’t seen what I have to offer,” Manuel said. “I think that’s the most exciting part. That’s why I enjoy coming in to work every morning… I was really happy with how I played in minicamp, and how I’ve been doing these past weeks since then. I’m excited. I’m just excited. It’s obviously more important to show it, and that’s what I’d rather do – I’d rather show it than just sit here and talk about it.”– EJ Manuel, 5/13/2015"

The benching became a learning opportunity for EJ Manuel, and he was able to take away something from it. As far as from a fans stance, let’s hope it was enough to put him over the edge and begin to take this team and lead them to where we all know they should be, the playoffs.
"“Just watching Kyle’s resiliency… obviously when things aren’t always going right, I think as a QB you just have to stay steadfast, and you have to just be yourself,” Manuel said. “I think that’s the biggest thing I learned – don’t try to be somebody you’re not, don’t try to always say the right thing, just be yourself and let your personality show.”“What I went through, I think that’s what grew me up. That was true adversity in my playing career,” Manuel continued. “As far as the competitive edge I have now, it’s crazy. I really feel like it’s almost an obsession now, as far as mastering this position – and obviously mastering this offense – but mainly just the mechanics and the fundamentals of the game. Why not spend all my time doing that? There’s really nothing else to do right now. The main thing is just being all in and invested in yourself.”– EJ Manuel, 5/13/2015"
There will be a three way quarterback competition between EJ Manuel, Matt Cassel, and Tyrod Taylor. Rex Ryan has stated that he will be giving each quarterback a equal number of snaps to provide the fairest competition that they can to find the best quarterback for this team.
