When you hear that a player is causing havoc within practice and camp, the first thing you think of is a negative aspect of that havoc.  Havoc is usually not considered to be a good thought off of anyone’s initial thought process.  As far as Jerry Hughes goes and creating havoc in the Buffalo Bills practice, this is the positive aspect of the word.

Jerry Hughes is causing havoc within practice, so much in that head coach Rex Ryan had to pull him off of the practice field so that they could actually run plays without having Hughes intervene in the play and causing a sack.

"“This just in—I am really happy we signed Jerry Hughes,” said Ryan with a grin. “It’s rare that you have to pull a guy from practice because he’s ruining your practice. But I had to pull him today. If we were keeping track he might have had five-six sacks. It’s one of those deals, it’s like, ‘OK, let’s pull him out. Let’s get a pass off or something like that.’ He really did have that kind of day today.”“He’s just got a tremendous motor and physical set and he really understands what they’re trying to get accomplished with their rush lanes,” said Matt Cassel. “Again when you come out and see it in person it’s pretty impressive.”– BuffaloBills.com"

This is a good sign of things to come with Jerry Hughes and the Buffalo Bills and with Hughes playing in his new found role as an outside linebacker.  He made name for himself in two years with the Buffalo Bills, after being traded from the Indianapolis Colts, on the defensive line, putting together the first 20 sacks in two season for a Buffalo Bills player.  He knows how to read the offensive line and can make it work for him.

Moving him back, a couple of feet, and allowing him to read the direction of the play and basically getting a running start at the ball, it can only improve his play.  And it seems that it has.

"“He plays bigger than his frame. He’s like 255 or something, but he plays much bigger,” Ryan said. “You can put him anywhere too. He plays an end, plays outside backer. But he’s definitely a physical player. He’s a good athlete. Your great pass rushers have a feel for it, when do go inside, when to set up guys and all that—and he has it.  He’s kind of like a pitcher,  a starting pitcher, with about four or five pitches. He’s one of those nightmares to go up against.”– BuffaloBills.com"
