Per a report by Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News, the Buffalo Bills have moved on to the next stage of things with free agent quarterback Josh McCown and begun to talk numbers and contract with him.

"A deal for McCown could be wrapped up by Friday, the source said. Exactly how many teams are bidding for his services or whether the Bills are considered front-runners wasn’t known.However, the source said the Bills were very much in the hunt to land McCown, a 12-year NFL veteran who was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Feb. 11. He has history with new Bills offensive coordinator Greg Roman, quarterbacks coach David Lee, and offensive line coach Aaron Kromer.– Buffalo News"

Josh McCown was brought in last week to meet with the Buffalo Bills, but left without even talking numbers with the Buffalo Bills organization.  Since then, McCown has met with two other teams; the Chicago Bears and the Cleveland Browns.

Last year, McCown was on the worst team in football, Tampa Bay, and did have great numbers to show for it.  Out of 39 quarterbacks, he finished 34th overall with a grade of -18.3.  He played 644 snaps for the Buccaneers last year.  Kyle Orton, finished with a ranking of 37th overall and a grade of -22.9 and only played in 180 more snaps than that of McCown.

Josh McCown did have a lower grade in his passing stats finishing with a -20.5 and 36th overall, but still above Kyle Orton who was left sitting with a -23.4 grade and 37th on the ranking.

There was a plus side to Josh McCown as he did perform above expectations on the run with a grade of +2.1 and ranking in the top 10 at 9th overall.  Being a 12 year veteran, there is experience that he is able to lean back on if necessary and if not to compete with EJ Manuel, but also assist in his development, McCown may not be a bad option as one of their 2 veteran free agent quarterbacks that they are looking to bring in.

If Josh McCown does sign with the team, there will definitely be a competition between EJ and Josh as neither one is a standout for starter at this point.

Josh McCown was highly sought after in last years free agent market but came up lame for the Buccaneers and with Mike Glennon on the roster, they did feel McCown was going to bring them anything different or what they had hoped for when they signed him last year.
