It is no secret that the Buffalo Bills are currently in search for a quarterback and it seems that it can be in any form or fashion at this point.  They are looking to bring anyone in to compete with EJ Manuel and provide the most options for New Coach Rex Ryan and Greg Roman.

Derek Anderson fits the bill for Rex Ryan as he is a veteran quarterback.  The Buffalo Bills quite possibly could be looking at a trade to bring in a veteran quarterback to help EJ Manuel as well as compete against him for the starting job that hasn’t seen a above-average quarterback in some time.

Although if it came to trading for a quarterback, Sam Bradford would be at the top of my list as far as ones that could possibly be available  in the short term, Derek Anderson would also be one that could be considered.

Anderson has been in the league for a couple of years and his numbers have not been too horrible.  Looking at last years numbers, when filling in for Cam Newton in Carolina, Anderson had 97 attempts with 64 completions.  He threw for 701 yards had a 7.23 yards per throw average and finished with 5 touchdowns and no interceptions.

He really hadn’t seen much work past last year except for 2010 when he was in Arizona.  When he was in Arizona in 2010 Derek Anderson had 327 attempts and completed 169 throws.  He averaged 6.32 yards per throw and had 7 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Anderson’s biggest year came in 2007 when he was with Cleveland finishing 298 completions on 527 attempts.  Throwing for almost 3800 yards, a 7.19 yards per attempt and 29 touchdowns with 19 interceptions.  Derek Anderson has shown that he can produce in the NFL, but is he past his prime?

For a 4th round pick with Derek Anderson coming into his last year of his contract, it might be a win-win for both the Buffalo Bills and the Carolina Panthers to make this deal.  If he turns out to be a bust, you only sent a 4th round to Carolina, and didn’t lose out on too much.
