The Buffalo Bills and Rex Ryan have just about come to terms with the reported deal to be 5 years 27.5 million.  WGR 550 was also reporting that Rex Ryan might be cleaning house as far as his coordinators go.

  • I can understand why a head coach would look to bring in his own personnel.  They understand each other and have worked together before.  There is a common place and there won’t be any type of disruption as far as the staff goes.

Is this a smart move though?  Rex Ryan is a defensive minded coach.  The defense is set in place at this point. You have a qualified defensive coordinator in position with the top defense in the league.  Why would you go and replace him to bring in someone that might not make the defense better but strip it down.

WGR 550 is stating that 49ers OC Greg Roman and Jets DC Dennis Thurman are joining Rex Ryan in Buffalo. Would they becoming in as Coordinators or advisers for Rex at this point?  I am not a fan of Nathaniel Hackett and don’t mind if he goes or stays really.  With reports that Doug Marrone held him back, I might look to give him another shot.

My biggest concern is the defensive side of the ball and having a 3rd coordinator coming into the mix for the 3rd straight year as well as having a 3rd straight scheme put into place.  The Bills have gotten lucky in that the coordinators that came in were very good at their jobs and worked with the players that they had in place.

With Rex Ryan in place and looking to bring over Dennis Thurman, will the Buffalo Bills be moving into a 3-4 defense, a Rex Ryan favorite, or will they stay in the 4-3 with the defensive line that they have in place?

These are all questions that won’t be answered anytime soon and will most likely be hanging over for the entire off-season until we actually get back into football but these are the questions that need to be answered. But in time they will be whether we like the answers to them or now.
