Doug Marrone Leaving Might Be For The Good

The Buffalo Bills saw their 2nd coach in a decade bring them to a winning record. This second coach was Doug Marrone. Marrone was sought as the Buffalo Bills head coach because of what he did in Syracuse, turn them around. He was stated to be a forward thinker and aggressive. I personally never saw that.

Doug Marrone decided to opt out of his 4 year contract, due to a clause in it when new ownership took over. There were a couple of reasons why he did opt out but two of the were a declination of extension for Marrone’s contract as well as Nathaniel Hackett’s contract. Doug Marrone also couldn’t handle the media in Buffalo. Good Luck any where else.

But with Marrone leaving, I for one was not too worried about trying to find another coach. I think that Marrone was bottom of the barrel and just about anyone would be an improvement at this point.

The fans were not the only one’s that were happy to see Marrone leave. Some of the staff in the Bills organization were not too fond of Doug Marrone either.

"“He’s a control freak,” said one person who knew Marrone in Buffalo.“It’s about power and control,” another unnamed source said. “That is what drives Doug Marrone. That’s why he is a very dangerous person to have inside the building.”The desire for control reportedly included approving any video clips posted on the team’s website. Per Mehta, Marrone also had a reputation for belittling people throughout the organization.“Marrone didn’t berate everyone,” Mehta writes. “If he felt that you could further his cause, he would tolerate — or even engage — you. However, one person who was treated with respect by Marrone in the past two years told the Daily News that he never felt it was authentic.”– Pro Football Talk"

So we have the fans who were unsure and didn’t like Marrone and some in the organizational staff, but what about the players and how they thought about Marrone?

"Many players reportedly didn’t like Marrone, who was perceived as lacking people skills and being “coarse.” Mehta also provide a “meh” review of Marrone’s two years in Buffalo, capping the item with this quote from another unnamed source: “He is the definition of average.”– Pro Football Talk"

At this point, Doug Marrone is out their searching for a job and hoping to land some where else. At this point, his only real resume points are that he was able to turn around a collegiate program as well as a professional program but can’t really say how they turned out or continued.
