Buffalo Bills Options At Quarterback

With Kyle Orton retiring and leaving the Buffalo Bills with EJ Manuel and Jeff Tuel as their quarterback options for the 2015 season, the Buffalo Bills need to begin to look at veteran options to bring in and compete for the starting job or at least minimally coach EJ Manuel and help in certain situations.

  • As of right now, there are a couple of players on the Unrestricted Free Agent list that could be ones to come in and fill the need for the Bills.

Both Matt Moore and Jack Locker head the list of free agent quarterbacks based on salary hit, which for Moore would be North of 5.5 M. For Locker it is looking like it would be just north of 4 M.  I really don’t think that either of these guys are a good fit in Buffalo.

I personally like Sam Bradford coming to Buffalo.  I know that Sam Bradford is injury prone, but he seems to bring the least amount of risk to the Bills and the quarterback position.  He is about .500 in his games and his TD to INT ratio isn’t too bad.  He is averaging about a 6.4 yard per attempt which is about the same as Manuel and Orton.  He does have a tendency to check down, but with Doug Marrone a run first coach,  we will most likely see a lot of the short passes because of this.

Brian Hoyer, Matt Flynn, and Jimmy Clausen are all quarterbacks that I would also look at bringing in to the Buffalo Bills as options to compete for the starting job.  They all bring limited risks with them and this is what the Bills need.

If the Bills are looking for someone to come in on a Kelly Holcomb level like the Bills did a while back to play the backup and coach the young quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck might be the guy to look at being 37, and the experience he brings, might not be a bad direction to go if they are set on EJ.  Hasselbeck did show us this year that he can still play so as an every once in a while for injury purpose start, he wouldn’t be too bad.

Take a look at the free agent quarterback tracker and see who is there that you might like for the Bills.
