The Bills dropped a close one to the Kansas City Chiefs yesterday.  Even with the loss the Bills defensive line was able to get to Alex Smith on 6 separate occasions and  take him to the ground.

More from Buffalo Bills News

Last year the Bills set a new franchise record for sacks recording 57 during the season and leading the league.  The All-Time Sacks for a season is set at 72 by the 1984 Chicago Bears.  The Bills are not on that pace for the season but they are on pace to break their own record.

Through 9 games so far, the Bills have 34 sacks right now.  This is better than their previous record through 9 games which was 32.  They are averaging just under 4 sacks a game which averages out to just over 60 sacks for the year.  Not too bad, especially seeing as they are not sending more pressure than last year, if fact they are sending less.  The majority of these sacks have come from a 4 man rush.

The Bills have also tied a franchise record as well with 23 sacks over the course of 5 weeks.

Marcell Dareus is having the season of his career so far, leading the team in sacks with 10.0 on the year.  Jerry Hughes has 7.5, Mario Williams has 7.0 and Kyle Williams has 2.5.

Dareus got to Smith 3 times yesterday, Hughes twice and Mario Williams once.

"“Yeah I mean, this is a really good group, they’re good up front, here at their own place been playing good all year,” said Chiefs QB Alex Smith. “It was tough,I knew coming in that this was a good group at home and they got the advantage when it’s loud and you can’t use cadence. I thought in order that we put ourselves in some bad 3rd downs, you want to stay out of any situation like this and we did. We had penalties and sacks and negative plays and put ourselves in 3rd and longs, and your kind of falling right in their wheel house.”– Buffalo Bills"

I wouldn’t be surprised to see 3 of the 4 make it to the Pro Bowl again this year but all be voted in and not as an alternate.

Now if only the Bills offense can start setting record, we might have a balanced team attack here.
