Even with all the emotional events of the past few months for Bills fans – Ralph Wilson, Jr.’s passing, Jim Kelly fighting cancer, the Pegulas buying the Bills, Andre Reed entering the Hall of Fame – things could really get crazy if the team can beat the New England Patriots today.
Across the country, Bills fans are keeping their enthusiasm in check about this season. The Bills are 3-2 and there are promising signs, but is it all just a tease? There have been multiple times in the past 14 years where we’ve been duped by strong starts that led nowhere but disappointment.
The Bills can’t ensure they won’t ultimately disappointment this season with a win today, but they can open the flood gates of Bills fandemonium. Beat the Patriots and the team will hold sole possession of first place in the AFC East with a 4-2 overall record and 2-0 in their division. From that record, Bills fans will be able to start seeing a realistic path to the post season.

After today, the Bills next six games are against the Vikings, Jets (twice), Dolphins, Chiefs and Browns – teams with a combined 10-18 record. The Bills also have their bye week sandwiched in that stretch to get healthy and prepare for arguably the toughest of those opponents (Chiefs.) It’s not hard to see the Bills using a win today to catapult them to a winning streak that puts them somewhere around 8-4 or 9-3 before the final four games of the schedule.
Bills fans everywhere are bursting at the seams to get really excited about this team and its playoff chances. If they watch their beloved Bills lose to the Patriots today, all those emotions will start to deflate. If they watch them win, fans will be able to see, feel and smell the playoffs.
They say one game doesn’t make a season and that’s true. But, one game can send a tremor through the fan base letting them know their excitement is warranted and the playoff hunt is on for real.
