After last nights game, if we can call it that, I will again look at the roster and make my predictions as to who will make the team and who will not. Saturday will be the big day for players being cut. Other notable dates include September 1st, the day that NFL teams need to put players on their practice squads and then the season starts on September 5th.
Last night, some players stood out as much as they could and others seemed to shoot themselves in the foot. Starting at QB; we have Manual, and Tuel. I think that Kolb is gone and after the short turnaround that Lewis and Leinart had coming into Buffalo and playing, Lewis showed more promise than Leinart did. Lewis is just more athletic and can do more with the ball even when he doesn’t know the offense.
RBs – Spiller, Jackson, Choice make the team. Brown is up in the air and is a bubble player right now. I think if there is a roster spot to give, he makes the team. Gaskins has not shown much throughout the preseason and he will not make the 53 man roster.
FB -Frank Summers.
WRs – Johnson, Graham, Woods, and Goodwin are locks. This leaves two spots available. I liked Kaufman, Hogan and Easley in the preseason and they all showed promise. Brad Smith’s injury opens up the possibility that two of these guys make the team and Smith is out. Easley and Hogan.
TE – Chandler is good to go. I liked Lee Smith and I think that Dorin Dickerson, even though listed as a WR will make the squad as a TE. Gragg is out.
OL – Wood, Urbik, Pears, Glenn, Caldwell and Colin Brown make the team. With Legursky going down last night, Chibane is the only other Guard listed. Welch did not impress me last night and doesn’t make the team. Young, Sanders and Snow make the team.
DL – Williams, Williams, Dareus, and Carrington will start. Blatnick, Branch and Gilbert have looked good and I think if Branch is able to move to DE then all three make the roster.
LB – Alonso, Lawson, Bradham, Moats, and Hughes make the team. I think that Dowtin and Brown looked good throughout the preseason and they make the team as well.
CB – Rogers, McKelvin, Butler, Gilmore, and Brooks make the team. The 6th spot will either go to Robey or Edwards.
S – Byrd is on a two week exemption for the roster. Williams, Williams, Searcy and Meeks all make the team.
This brings the roster to 50. There are 3 spots available to fill. Zach Brown will be one of them if not then they take a WR. I think a 7th CB is taken, as well as another OL or a D-lineman.
