With the NFL draft quickly approaching there are always last minute mock drafts, teams looking in different directions, smoke screens and gambling going on. Teams will be completing their due diligence on players and finalizing assessments. They then will possibly select a player that could help their franchise for years to come. A team that really needs to have a good draft is the Buffalo Bills. A change in the coaching stuff that is sure to show a new look will benefit from a good first draft. Looking at countless mock drafts and reading player profiles for potential first round draftees I have narrowed it down to three.
First is probably the most publically talked about these days in Ryan Nassib. Being with Coach Marrone in Syracuse many believe he would be the fastest within the QB’s to adjust and perform at the NFL level. Some knocks on Nassib is his deep ball accuracy and his ability to stand tuff in the pocket. Now Bills fans won’t be that upset with the deep accuracy that much because he can actually do it. Not having a QB that can even throw that type of ball for years has had fans waiting for one. Positives for Nassib include the ability to read the game very well and also great arm strength.
The next player I can see the Bills taking is Dee Milliner. Being talked about as a shutdown corner what is there not to like? Every team would like to get one but are not always available. Some news coming out recently that might scare teams away is injury problems. Reports stating he has had 5 surgeries that include knee and shoulder. That being said these teams have had enough time to meet with him and look into all things that might scare them off. I like Milliner and also think the Bills do. The question is will he be there? If he’s there and a QB they like is also what do they do? Those are debates and decisions I wish I was able to listen too. Milliner and Gilmore would look good on the Bills defense this upcoming year.
Lastly the player I think the Bills will definitely look at is Matt Barkley. He has been my pick for a while now and I just think he brings the qualities that this team needs. Coming from USC you know the stereotypes will always follow but this guy I think will be the real deal. When you look at his stats in college he performed very well. Although production dropped in his senior year he continued to show that he has what it takes to compete at this level. Knocks on his arm strength could scare teams off but I think he’s able to throw it all over the field. Will he need work? Without a doubt but coming to a team that has desperately needed a QB he would fit right in.
Those are my three players I think the Bills will look at and hopefully one will be taken. Although I desperately want this team to take a QB I wouldn’t hate the idea of taking Milliner if he’s available. What are your thoughts?
