Fansided Mock Draft: Offseason Week 2

Its been an exciting week to be a Buffalo sports fan. The hockey lockout is over and the Bills named Doug Marrone the team’s new head coach. Now with the new coaching staff being assembled, they are going to want to start building for the future. What better way to start then their first NFL draft! This week’s mock draft over on the main Fansided site has the Bills taking a player they’ve selected in Fansided mocks once before. However, some picks for other teams have radically changed, especially near the top.

With the eighth overall pick in the draft, Fansided once again has the Bills selecting Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson. We’ve already taked about Wilson before back in Week 15. You can read that here. This is what Fansided had to say about the Bills and Wilson this week.

"The Bills also desperately need a quarterback and if they can’t get Glennon, it’s looking like they’ll settle for Tyler Wilson. But if the actual draft plays out like this mock, don’t be surprised to see the Bill jump at Geno Smith if he’s available. Buddy Nix has entertained the idea of possibly signing Micheal Vick, but if he can get a younger, healthier and much cheaper version of Vick in Smith that might be the move he makes. The hype around Wilson is starting to grow immensely and he, along with Glennon, would be the best quarterbacks on the board when the Draft begins."

Of course they reference two other quarterbacks, Mike Glennon and Geno Smith. They had Glennon going to the Bills last week, but this week he is taken one before them by the Arizona Cardinals. The odds of this happening are doubtful, as many believe Glennon’s stock is actually falling. He had a very rough bowl game, which showed many of his flaws. Whether he is still even considered in the first round has been questioned.

Geno Smith has been taken first overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in these mocks for weeks now. But this week, they really mix things up. Instead they selected Luke Joeckel, and offensive lineman from Texas A&M. New coach Andy Reid has hinted that the Chiefs could opt to wait until later rounds to draft a quarterback. In this week’s mock Smith doesn’t get selected until the Dallas Cowboys are on the board.

If Smith is available, which I doubt because one of the teams before Buffalo would likely make a move for him, it would not be surprising for the Bills to give him a good look. Regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in the draft, he also had a rough bowl game. His Mountaineers lost by a heavy margin to Coach Doug Marrone’s Syracuse Orange. Seeing his struggles firsthand could scare off the new Bills coach.

There is also the possibility of the Bills waiting until later rounds to make a move at quarterback as well. As I talked about earlier, Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib is starting to seem more and more likely. If so, the Bills would have the ability to fill one of their other needs in the first round.

With the second pick in the draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars made it two Aggies in a row by selecting defensive end Damontre Moore. The Oakland Raiders took Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones third while Michigan offensive lineman Taylor Lewan jumped up the draft board to be taken fourth overall by the Philadelphia Eagles.
