BLD Picks NFL Games Against the Spread: Week 8

facebooktwitterreddit

Let’s be real: a lot of people love football because it’s the easiest and funnest sport to gamble on. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Personally, I’m too broke to gamble (being a first-year public school teacher isn’t too lucrative), but I sure do watch a lot of football. I figure I should help* my loyal readers out with some gambling advice. Each week I’ll pick four games plus a fifth “Lock of the Week.”

*Help not guaranteed to be actually helpful.

I was on my way to an okay week last week…and then the Dolphins and Chargers decided to roll over and die in the second half of their respective games against the Broncos and Jets. And it was all downhill from there.

And then I suffered my first “Lock of the Week” loss in quite as a while when the Ravens went ahead and set offensive football back four decades with their embarrassing Monday night performance in Jacksonville.

But it’s time for a bounce back week! Let’s do this.

(Home teams in CAPS)

BILLS (-5) over Redskins

I don’t like how high that line is…but I do like Chan Gailey with an extra week to game plan against a beat-up Redskins team.

Colts (+9) over TITANS

Yeah, the Colts lost by 55 points last week, but the Saints are awesome. Once the Colts got down a few scores they quit on that one. But the Titans are certainly not the Saints. The Colts will show some pride and hang around in this one. And the Titans should not be favored by nine points against ANYONE right now. Have you seen them play the past two weeks? Dreadful.

RAVENS (-13) over Cardinals

I can’t imagine the Ravens having two craptastic performances in a row. The Cardinals stink, and this is a 1 p.m. Eastern start. If the Ravens don’t come out in “kill mode” and just DESTROY this Arizona team, you can probably write off their Super Bowl chances.

SEAHAWKS (+1.5) over Bengals

The Bengals are better than the Seahawks on a neutral field, but deafening CenturyLinkField in Seattle will be a whole new world for Andy Dalton and this young Bengals team. I think the Seahawks force a few turnovers and find a way to win this one.

And now…

*Note: don’t take the word “Lock” too seriously.

Patriots (-3) over STEELERS

A few reasons: first, the Pats have owned the Steelers recently. Two, the Pats are really, really good. Three, I don’t think the Steelers are great. They’ve feasted on some crappy teams the past few weeks. I look for a huge Pats win here.

Last Week: 0-4-1

Overall: 18-14-3

Lock of the Week: 5-2
