BLD Book Review: first things first By Kurt and Brenda Warner
By Tim Redinger
Kurt and Brenda Warner, not the football star and his wife, but the parents of seven kids combined to write this inspiration book. If your looking for the life and times of Kurt Warner and his career path, wrong book. While his career does intertwine with the story of his family, this book is more a guideline for parents and couples who struggle with life – and need someone like the Warner’s to act as a bastion of hope.
The book is written from the perspective of both Kurt and Brenda, not together but in an almost a and b format. In each chapter, they take turns telling their side of the story along the path of their life from when they met up until the Cardinals run to the Super Bowl. While probably not destined for the coffee tables or book shelves of die hard football fans, those that are fans of Kurt Warner will find this an interesting read. Or you can use it to show your wife or girlfriend that not all professional football players do time in prison. It will probably be a good tool to teach your kids about sportsmanship the next time they see Pac-man Jones, Plaxico Buress, or Marshawn Lynch in the news for something negative.
From the time they met, through the ability to struggle through life together, Kurt and Brenda share with their readers how they kept their marriage together and manage seven kids. (Two of which were from her [Brendas] first marriage). Even sharing how their parenting methods would differ, but get figured out.
I will take a couple of things from this book. Mainly, take things one day at a time, and if you want something – word hard and don’t give up.
As a new father, this book will definitely stay on my shelf for reference, as well as a momento. As a sports fan I would give this book a two out of five, for lack of sports content. As a reader, I would give this book a four out of five. If you can manage to find a copy (If you click on the book cover above it will take you directly to the Amazon.com page for first things first) it does make for some pretty good light reading.
